Counselors & Guest Speakers
Our homebuyer counselors and guest speakers are knowledgeable about all the steps you need to take in the home buying process. Under their instruction, you can be assured that upon completion of the course, you will have the know-how you need to buy a home.
Please note that class participants are under no obligation to use the homebuyer counselors or any guest speakers for their services.
Rosa Ordaz is the Resident Services & Community Engagement Manager at Harborlight Community Partners (HCP). Rosa manages HCP’s Financial Coaching along with support services for HCP’s formerly homeless individuals, seniors, and disabled residents across multiple properties in Essex County. She is a certified First-Time Homebuyer Counselor and is also the newest member of the City of Salem’s Zoning Board of Appeals and Chairs 2 committees for Policy Advocacy and Resident Services.
Tom Houlihan is the Senior Resident Service Coordinator for Harborlight Community Partners. He has worked as a Care Director for several elderly housing programs and is finishing his BS in Business Administration. Tom has worked as a home care nurse for ten years serving people around the North Shore and Greater Boston. He is passionate about housing and glad to be a part of the First-Time Homebuyer Course.
Ronn Huth received a Master’s degree from Case Western Reserve University in Organizational Development and a Master’s in Theology from Fuller Seminary. He has been a full time real estate buyer’s broker for 30+ years. He joined the REALTOR® association in 1988 and founded Buyer’s Choice Realty in 1990 as the first buyer-only agency in the North Shore area. Ronn is a Past President of the North Shore Association of REALTORS® and continues to be a leader as a MA certified real estate instructor. He is also a member of the Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council Hall of Fame and was one of the first approved instructors for the Accredited Buyer’s Representative course nationally.
David Kres is the co-founder and co-owner of Buyers Brokers Only, LLC, the country’s largest exclusive buyer agency company. He is an exclusive buyer agent, a licensed attorney, and real estate broker with over 12 years’ experience. David was the North Shore Association REALTORS® 2010 REALTOR® of the Year and in 2008 was named one of the top 30 real estate agents under the age of 30 by National REALTOR® Magazine. He has created, organized, developed content for, and taught at various First-Time Homebuyer courses and has taught orientation at NSAR since 2011.
Kim Jylkka Lorden
Kim Jylkka Lorden has over 15 years of experience as a Massachusetts REALTOR® working with both buyers and sellers; presently with Churchill Properties. She has a strong network of resources to draw from and has completed the Graduate REALTOR® Institute (GRI) and Certified Buyer Representative (CBR) designation courses. Kim has helped dozens of buyers navigate the waters of searching, negotiating, inspections, financing, and closing on their first home. For five years, she has worked as a teacher’s assistant and substitute teacher in the public school system and is also a licensed yoga teacher. Kim strongly values the benefits of education.
Shari McStay is an experienced real estate professional with Keller Williams Realty. As a member of the North Shore Association of REALTORS®, she is held to the highest level of integrity and professionalism. Shari is known as a creative problem solver with the business acumen to help clients achieve their specific real estate needs and goals. Holding both a Master’s in Education and a Master’s in Business, and with a passion for teaching, Shari enjoys teaching the home buying process in a classroom setting, as well as educating her buying and selling clients day-to-day.
Cynthia Nina-Soto has over 12 years of experience working with first-time homebuyers. She started her own real estate brokerage, Nina-Soto & Company, offering residential real estate services to Massachusetts. The majority of her clients are Latino buyers. She has taught classes related to technology and also on how to work with and understand the Latino culture. She has participated in the First-Time Homebuyer classes offered by the CDC in Salem and enjoys helping others learn and apply those teachings to improve their lives. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
Jennifer Brennan has been a loan officer for over 14 years, and currently a Branch Manager with HarborOne Bank. She is a member of North Shore Association of REALTORS® and licensed in MA, NH, ME, CT, VT, RI, and FL. She is passionate about educating consumers on the home buying process and receives annual training on federal laws, ethics, and non-traditional mortgage lending. She is also a Military Mortgage Specialist.
Patty Gabriel has over 25 years of experience in mortgage banking, both with regional and national lenders. She works at Draper & Kramer, which provides comprehensive lending services to consumers. Patty is licensed in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She has taught the First-Time Homebuyer Education classes for the past nine years for Community Team Works and MassHousing, and has been teaching continuing education classes to real estate agents at NSAR for the past eight years.
George Koutsos is a top loan officer with more than twenty-eight years of experience in the industry, over 8,000 closed loans and the winner of numerous awards for excellence in his field, he has the tools and the ability to help his clients navigate the mortgage process. He particularly prides himself on building lifelong relationships with each borrower, and he aims to give the most personalized service possible. On a personal level, George enjoys spending time with his wife Ruth at their home in Danvers. George is licensed to originate mortgage loans in MA, ME, NH, CT, RI, FL, SC. He is also a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS) and a Registered Mortgage Advisor (RMA).
Anthony Lapolla is a loan officer with Envoy Mortgage, one of the top Mortgage Lenders in the country. He is a member of the North Shore Association of Realtors and licensed in both MA and NH. With a vast knowledge of all mortgage types and programs, Anthony is dedicated to educating each buyer on all of their options, helping them make the best financial decision for themselves and their families. He is committed to providing buyers with a hassle-free experience via the most technologically-advanced tools available in the industry.
Real Estate Attorneys
Elizabeth (Liz) Barletta is an attorney at Ligris & Associates, a firm specializing in real estate transactions. Her practice focuses primarily on representing buyers, sellers, and lenders in the acquisition, sale, and financing of real estate. She is a licensed attorney in Massachusetts and Florida and a licensed Notary Public in Massachusetts. She has presented at various first-time homebuyer seminars for Boston College, Northeastern University, and several community organizations in Greater Boston. She has also held numerous training sessions in real estate offices across Massachusetts. Liz is fluent in Spanish.
Attorney Robin M. Blake, has specialized in the representation of buyers, sellers, and lenders in residential real estate transactions for over 33 years. Her firm, Simple Title Closing & Escrow, located in Danvers, is focused on the practice of residential conveyancing. Robin is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts, and the North Shore Association of REALTORS®. She has taught a number of professional advancement and continuing education classes at NSAR and elsewhere; as well as first-time homebuyer certification program classes for local organizations.
Attorney Rick Gilmore has been a real estate attorney since 1998 and has extensive experience in both residential and commercial real estate. His 20 years as an attorney and 6 years as a title examiner have given him experience in real estate, estate planning, personal injury, probate litigation, and business litigation and formation. Rick has conducted thousands of closings and helped hundreds of first-time homebuyers navigate their first purchase. He is active in the community and is a Past President and current Board member of the Danvers Rotary Club, Director of the Danvers YMCA, Past President and current Board member of Friends Forever USA, a member of the Real Estate Bar Association, Massachusetts Trial Lawyers Association, Essex Bar Association, and an affiliate member with the North Shore Association of REALTORS®.
Attorney Judy Field’s practice is concentrated in real estate law and she has been a real estate attorney for over 20 years. The firm represents both residential and commercial transactions and condominium conversions. Judy earned her Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School after earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in Political Science. She is committed to the local community and to helping others overcome obstacles to homeownership. She currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the pro-bono attorney for Habitat for Humanity and the Town of Ipswich’s Housing Partnership.
Meredith Fine brings 10 years of experience as an attorney opening her solo practice in 2009. Currently her practice is in real estate and business counseling. She has represented buyers, sellers, and lenders throughout Essex and Middlesex counties. She is a member of the North Shore Association of REALTORS® and the Real Estate Bar Association and is a Title Agent for CATIC. She is a former journalist and uses those skills to help her communicate complex legal issues to first-time homebuyers.
Currently with Dorner Law & Title Services, Andy Shealy has spent many years as an attorney assisting others with their real estate and housing needs, both in the public and private sectors. For the past couple of years, Andy has focused his law practice exclusively on real estate conveyancing. Previously, Andy spent five years as a Legal Analyst with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office where he helped homeowners avoid foreclosure and enforced the Manufactured Housing regulations. He is a lifelong Massachusetts resident.
Stephen Silveri is a Partner/Principal of Silveri & Wilson LLC. He has fourteen years of real estate expertise and focuses his practice on residential and commercial closings, condominium conversions, and refinances. He has also earned a Massachusetts certification as a state-licensed real estate instructor. Through various attorney and REALTOR® organizations, he teaches both attorneys and real estate agents about real estate contract law, condominium conversions, and career planning. Stephen feels that teaching has made him a better attorney by providing an opportunity to hear concerns that agents have shared about the closing process and incorporate solutions to those concerns in his firm’s practice.
Jeff Stelman is an attorney who has been concentrating in the field of residential real estate for over 20 years. Jeff represents buyers, sellers, and a wide array of lenders. He is an active volunteer educator through local real estate offices, associations, and homebuyer courses. His work with STELMAN LAW includes the drafting and negotiating of Purchase and Sale Agreements, conducting residential closings, drafting of zoning options, and condominium conversions. Jeff is an affiliate member of the North Shore Association of REALTORS® and has previously served on its Board of Directors. He currently serves on the NSAR Finance Committee and volunteers as a continuing education instructor.
Natasha Boye is Relationship Manager and Business Develop for MassHousing. MassHousing is an independent, quasi-public agency created in 1966 and charged with providing financing for affordable housing in Massachusetts. She has been in the mortgage industry for over 15 years including roles as a loan officer focusing on low-to-moderate income borrowers. She has also worked as a post-closing officer and is a non-practicing attorney. Natasha has also been a training consultant and taught pre-purchase counseling. She believes knowledge is power and enjoys empowering homebuyers.
Lisa Fiandaca is MassHouisng Director of HomeOwnership-Production. MassHousing is an independent, quasi-public agency created in 1966 and charged with providing financing for affordable housing in Massachusetts. During her 35 years in the mortgage industry, she has acquired extensive experience in mortgage underwriting, operations, mortgage insurance, and secondary management. She has presented at homebuyer education classes throughout MA for the last 12 years. She often presents at homebuyer workshops and REALTOR® office sales meetings and has been a co-instructor for the NSAR Expanding Housing Opportunities class.
Angelo Nuby has been with MassHousing since 2007. His primary objective is to reach out to under serviced markets, enhance financial literacy and increase minority lending. He works with non-profits, faith-based organizations, and municipalities to help educate prospective home buyers. He also has 35 years in retail banking, small business lending, and mortgage lending as well as underwriting and processing loans. Angelo teaches to ensure that people in under-served communities have and understand housing options that are available in the Commonwealth.
David Ray is the President and CEO of Leslie S. Ray Insurance Agency and has 30 years of experience in the industry. David is fluently versed in home, auto, boat, flood, and umbrella insurance as well as commercial business insurance. He has led Leslie S. Ray Insurance to be one of five agencies in Massachusetts to be awarded Five Stars. David takes pride in his community and is a former President of the Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Beverly, and 2017 Business Person of the Year.
John Carroll has been an inspector at ABC Home Inspection since 1992, is licensed in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, and has inspected over 10,000 houses. John has knowledge of the full home buying process as a licensed real estate agent, construction supervisor, pesticide applicator, oil burner technician, and an approved real estate instructor.
Andy Consoli is the owner of ABC Home Inspection and ABC Real Estate Training Institute. He has been teaching real estate and first-time homebuyer classes for over 25 years. He is a certified real estate instructor and licensed home inspector in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He is also a licensed/certified contractor and home inspector instructor, heating system technician, de-leader, mold inspector, radon testing technician, EPA renovate, repair and paint instructor, exterminator, and real estate broker. Andy looks to bring his many years and range of experience to help first-time homebuyers understand home inspections within the home buying process.
Ray Jackson has been a licensed home inspector in Massachusetts and New Hampshire for over 30 years and, in addition has owned his own construction company. He enjoys helping first-time homebuyers understand the home inspection process and why it is beneficial to them. He has long-been a speaker at first-time homebuyer seminars and has also been interviewed for television and newspapers on various home inspection topics.
